The Russian beer brewing plant “Baltika-Samara” (city of Samara, Russia) has successfully commissioned a new automation system for control and optimization of operational activities.
Saint-Petersburg, February 16, 2009/ reported by PRIME-TASS news agency/. The Russian beer brewing plant “Baltika-Samara”/the branch production site of "The Beer Brewing Company “Baltika”/ has just commissioned an industrial automation MES-system – an automated system for control and optimization of operational activities, as officially stated today by the company press service.
MES (Manufacturing Execution System) is a short abbreviation of an automated system commonly used for control and optimization of operational activities that in the real – time mode initiates, keeps track, optimizes, stores and prints on paper operation process starting from order reception up to finished commodities.
Implementation of a new automation system to be used for controlling over process operations allows the brewery to cut costs and to increase final product quality.
The MES – system collects all the information directly from the PLCs used to control the process lines. The information obtained allows to analyze the beer brewing process in total, e.g. when the beer brews were complete, what type of wort was transported to CCTs (Cylindrical-Conical Tanks), how the bottling lines were working etc. As an important part of the implemented MES-system acts the laboratory system called LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) — this is a system used to control information obtained at the Quality Assurance laboratory. All the incoming and outgoing information is systematically processed and stored.
